Happy New Year!
May 2015 be a year filled with many adventures – musical and otherwise.
Sadly, for me the new year has started off with a significant family loss. My Grandfather – Raymond Arthur Garbes died on Saturday, January 10 at the age of 89.
I trace my musical gifts directly to Grandpa Garbes. He had a deep and resonant voice and 11 siblings most of whom played instruments or sang. The most precious family artifacts we have are recordings of the Garbes family singing and playing the country favorites of their day. I am proud of these musical roots and so grateful for my Grandfather’s life. Here’s a picture from his 65th Wedding Anniversary. Handsome guy, no?
On the musical front, I’ve been doing a lot of ruminating on the focus and direction of my musical efforts now that I’m happily only working part time. Here are the results of that ruminating, at least for now.
1. Continue with Chance Allies, always seeking new opportunities to perform for organizations and causes we believe in. If you have contacts or ideas for us please get in touch. Almost all of our gigs come from word of mouth so your recommendation of our work is vitally important to us.
2. Develop a new musical effort with Pianist Doug White and Vibraphonist Doug Normington for the purpose of playing House Concerts, local jazz venues and weddings. So far the working name of our group is Tisha and Special Blend. Look for us out and about very soon!
3. Continue singing with the Madison College Big Band and also with other community based groups as the opportunity arises and time permits. My first foray into this line of musical expression was to join the Martin Luther King Community Choir Directed by Leotha and Tamera Stanley. In February, I’ll be joining the Tosa Jazz Band at Plymouth, UCC in Milwaukee for a Shrove Tuesday event (for more details on this event, see below).
4. Make myself available as a vocalist for weddings, funerals and other life celebrations.
Thank you for your support of Chance Allies and all of my various musical endeavors. If you haven’t already, go ahead and “like” my Chance Allies and Tisha Brown pages on facebook and/or share this newsletter with someone you think might be interested in hearing our music or joining this mailing list.
